The Rev. David Osborne served as St Luke's interim pastor from August 4, 2019 until February 23, 2020. He came to us with a wide range of pastoral experience since graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary in 1977, most recently serving at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. We were delighted to have his wife, Karen Schoenberger Osborne sing in our choir. They have two grown children, three grandchildren and currenly live in Woodstock, Georgia. They guided us through the interim process until Pastor Noah Herren accepted our call. The next chapter of their life brings full retirement and a cross country camper trip. The Rev. Dr. Ruth E. Hamilton
The Rev. Dr. Ruth E. Hamilton was installed as St Luke’s third pastor on November 18, 2012. She came to us from the ELCA Churchwide organization in Chicago where she had been serving as chief of staff to Secretary David D. Swartling. She was ordained in 2003 after graduating from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. She joined the staff of the ELCA churchwide organization in 1999 as director for administration of the archives. She has a PhD in English from Northwestern and has taught at Northwestern, Northern Illinois, Loyola, and Wartburg (see bio). During her time at St. Luke, the congregation grew younger and more diverse. We enjoyed her creative children’s sermons, beautiful singing of the Liturgy, insightful Bible Studies and small group dinners (see her sermon archive). She completed her ministry at St. Luke on March 19, 2017, returning to the ELCA churchwide organization to work in the area of candidacy and leadership development.
Pastor Craig Storlie
Pastor Craig Storlie was installed on March 6, 2011 as St. Luke’s interim pastor. Pastor Craig currently lives in Lawrenceville, GA. He originally hails from Minnesota and attended Luther Seminary. He was ordained in 1985 and has served churches in MN, TX, and GA. With his experience in interim ministry, he guided us through the transition process of preparing for and calling a new permanent pastor. Transition was complete on September 30, 2012.
The Rev. Gordon T. Reinertsen
The Rev. Gordon T. Reinertsen became St. Luke's second Pastor. His first worship service was on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1972. Pastor Reinertsen served St Luke for over 38 years before retiring on February 28, 2011. We have been truly blessed by his loving and dedicated leadership and care in helping St Luke to grow into the thriving, vibrant community it is today.
Pastor Beth Birkholz
Pastor Beth Birkholz shared her gifts with St. Luke for a time too brief in 2017 from March 22 through June 11 during our transition. Prior to joining us she served as Associate Pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Marietta. She is married to Pastor Scott Seeke who had been serving at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville. Together they have accepted a call to be co-pastors of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livonia, Michigan where they will undoubtedly be moved by her down-to-earth sermons relating her everyday experiences with those of people described in the Bible.
Pastor Karen Boda
Pastor Karen Boda came to St. Luke in August 2015 having recently graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology of Emory University. She has been a Lutheran almost all her life and a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marietta for the past 30 years. In her previous life, she worked as a director in customer support for Hewlett Packard. While serving here until April 24, 2016, Vicar Karen brought us fresh ways to connect with God and our fellows: the "Gods Work, Our Hands" mobile, Lenten Prayer Flags, and many timely Facebook posts thanks to the photographic talents of her husband Alan. And she sang in our choir! She was ordained October 15, 2016 and served as pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Clay, Alabama until 2019. She now serves as the Assistant to the Bishop for Congregational Development in the Southeastern Synod of the ELCA.
Pastor Anna Tew
Pastor Anna Tew became St Luke's first intern pastor on July 25, 2014, completing her time with us in July 2015, one step closer to ordination as an ELCA Lutheran Pastor. She earned a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory in 2011, served as chaplain at Emory Hospital in Midtown and has been a member of St John's Lutheran Church in Atlanta.
